The theme for the 40th conference "Cancer Care Coming of Age” will highlight geriatric oncology – an emerging area of interest especially for COSA members.
The disease theme will concentrate on gastro-intestinal cancers and will encompass gastric, oesophagus and hepatobiliary tumours which are often neglected at major meetings.
The program will cover the broad range of multidisciplinary sessions the COSA membership has come to appreciate at the ASM.

The theme of this conference is "Palliative medicine: past, present and future". The theme represents 2014 being the 20th year of conferencing for ANZSPM and there will be a strong focus of history throughout the conference (where we have come from, where we are now and where we may soon be heading to in evidence based modern Palliative Medicine).
It will also address many specific topics via plenary sessions and a diverse range of workshops. We plan on daily sessions of “rapid-fire poster presentations” as well to allow everyone to become aware of the research happening across Australia and New Zealand and give researchers a chance to clearly explain their topics in a very brief summarised time before plenary sessions.
We have two excellent international speakers; Dr Paul Glare from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and Dr Mike Bennett from Leeds End-of-Life Observatory in the UK. They will cover topics such as current management of neuropathic pain, practical and effective pain assessment and management in a Palliative Care population across settings, current research on the benefits of early intervention Palliative Medicine. In addition we have an excellent caliber of national speakers who bring new insights and knowledge to such topics as the physiology of pain, psychological interventions for managing symptoms in Palliative Care, interventional pain management and effective collaboration today, addiction medicine and palliative medicine - how do we share and learn from each other?
There will be workshops on "Neuropathic Pain", “Dignity Therapy” and "Addiction Medicine" to name a few, which will be of interest to many. An ANZSPM/AChPM Trainee Day, with an exciting program, will precede the main conference.
