Alison is the Manager of the Social Work Department and currently Acting Allied Health Director at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne. She is responsible for coordinating the largest team of oncology social workers in Australia, as well as managing language services, music therapy and Aboriginal health at Peter Mac.

Alison graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of South Australia in 1998. She worked in rural settings and overseas before commencing as a clinical social worker at Peter Mac over 10 years ago. Whilst she has limited availability to carry a clinical load these days, Alison was for many years the Gynaecological Social Worker at Peter Mac and built an expertise in working in this field. She has recently completed her Master of Advanced Social Work (by Research) and her thesis concentrated on exploring the psychosocial needs and patient experience of women with cervical cancer.

Alison has worked closely with Associate Professor Lynette Joubert to develop the Collaboration for Social Research in Cancer Care; a practice-based research initiative between the University of Melbourne and the Peter Mac Social Work Department. Alison has been fortunate to receive scholarships from COSA, OSWA, Cancer Social Work Victoria and the AOSW. In 2006 she was the AASW Boston-Melbourne travelling scholar.

Alison has been an executive member of Cancer Social Work Victoria since 2007 and is the current Chair of the Cancer Council Victoria’s Clinical Network Psycho-Oncology Group.
